UPDATE ON ROE STREET

Our thanks to John Edquist and Sue Tongue who undertook a very detailed analysis of the limited number of plans, drawings and statements provided by Housing ACT (HACT) and posted to the ACTPLA website for yet another attempt to comply with the supportive housing standards.  These selected documents were provided by ACTPLA for comment by Friday 7 July 2023.

The GNCA submission of 19 pages addressed many issues of concern.  A full copy of the submission is available here.  addition to the GNCA representation, ACTPLA received a further 24 submissions from concerned local residents, predominately around meeting the supportive housing compliance standards.  Other representations voiced serious concern over ACT Government’s shift around their longstanding salt and pepper social housing policy. Should this development proceed, some 70% of the street will consist of social housing.  Scarcely an example of salt and pepper.

The GNCA strongly supports quality and compliant social housing in Canberra. It does not support HACT’s concentration and social housing intensification that is proposed for Roe Street.  This produces poor planning outcomes and a retreat in ACT Government public housing salt and pepper policy.
