The GNCA believes that any health centre would be better located at a group centre such as Manuka or Kingston, and that the Government
should have taken advantage of a recent opportunity to transfer the site of the health centre to Kingston. Despite the GNCA petition
objecting to the location of the health centre gaining 1,833 signatures, the Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Environment
and Planning decided not to hold an inquiry. In her letter to the GNCA of 30th June, Minister Stephen-Smith stated “The ACT Government
is committed to this site and has invested more than $2 million so far in planning and designing the new centre in this location.”
The ACT Government has started a series of Community Pop Up sessions to discuss their plans for the new health centre behind the Griffith

The Government is seeking the community’s initial impressions about the design of the health centre before it moves into the formal

The Government has stated that the Health Centre will offer a greater variety of community-based health services including:
• oral health (= dental services to those with access to this service – it’s not part of Medicare)
• pathology collection
• post-acute care and support
• rapid access clinics, and;
• chronic disease management.
Earlier reports also suggested that there would be breast cancer screening and that the “chronic disease management” would include
podiatry, nutrition advice, and physiotherapy.
The Centre will only be open on weekdays during normal office hours. Services will only be available by appointment and most will
only be available to concession card holders. It will not be a nurse led walk in centre like the one in Weston Creek.
