Assault at Griffith Newsagency

Assault at Griffith Newsagency

As of Tuesday 2 September, Macka’s Griffith Newsagency and Post Office remains closed following an assault of a staff member on the afternoon of Tuesday 26 August.

We understand that this matter is with the ACT policing.

Despite the calls from Griffith shopkeepers, supported by the GNCA in January 2024, the ACT Government has advised in response to our letter that there were “no immediate plans” to install CCTV at our local shops. This refusal was despite a number of incidents at the shops. Our local shop keepers, merchants, and their staff, remain exposed to robberies, property damage and now physical assaulted.

What needs to happen before the Government considers that there is sufficient reason to install the CCTV system the Griffith shopkeepers have sought?.
